our office.
Mammography
A mammogram is a specific type of breast
imaging that uses low-dose x-rays to
detect cancer early and when it is most
treatable. At Imaging for Women,
Tomographic, or 3D mammograms are
the standard of care for all of our
patients. A 3D mammogram takes a
series of images through the breast tissue
and allows the radiologist to detect
smaller cancers that may be difficult to
visualize in a standard mammogram. At
Imaging for Women, our state-of-the-art
mammography unit allows you to control
your own compression, creating a gentler,
often pain-free, mammogram experience.
Screening Mammograms are recommended
annually for all women beginning at age 40.
Additional screenings, such as whole breast
ultrasound or breast MRI, may be
recommended for high-risk patients.
Diagnostic Mammograms are also
performed at Imaging for Women for
symptomatic patients or for abnormalities
seen on a screening exam. Diagnostic
mammograms must be ordered by your
health care provider. Complete evaluation,
recommendations, and results are
discussed with you by our radiologists or
their assistants before you leave the office.
The exam report is issued to your referring
health care provider typically within one
hour of your exam.
It is best to schedule your mammogram
when you are not on your menstrual
cycle, when the breast tissue is less
sensitive. Please do not wear deodorant
or talcum powder under your arms or on
your breasts on the day of the exam as
this can look similar to abnormal calcium
deposits on the mammogram. Breast
compression is necessary during imaging
in order to evenly distribute the breast so
that all of the tissue can be visualized and
adequately evaluated for abnormalities,
and minimize the radiation exposure.
However, Imaging for Women is the first
facility in the Midwest to implement
patient-assisted compression. This
cutting-edge technology allows you to
help control your own exam for a more
comfortable experience. Please
remember to describe any breast
symptoms, such as new palpable lumps
or persistent breast pain, to our
scheduler and/or technologist before
your exam.

Ultrasounds
Ultrasound uses sound waves to view structures
within the body in real time. Complete evaluation,
recommendations, and results are discussed with
you by our radiologists before you leave the office.
The report of your exam is issued to your healthcare
provider typically within one hour of your exam.
bone density
A bone density scan, or DEXA scan, is a simple, non-
invasive and painless exam used to measure bone
mass in areas such as your spine, hip, and wrist and
is used to detect osteoporosis.
biopsies
The results of the biopsy may take up to a week. A
consultation appointment is scheduled one week
after your biopsy exam in order to have time with
the radiologist to review all results in detail and
address questions and concerns with you.
CONTRAST-ENHANCED
MAMMOGRAPHY (CEM)
Contrast-Enhanced Mammography (CEM) provides
exceptional clarity to find breast cancers that may
not be visible in traditinoal mammography.
